Unseen Munich: Independent journals from Archive Artist Publications (AAP), 1960 to today
Munich in magazine format: The exhibition “Munich Underground” reveals what the city’s subculture has been producing since the 1960s. The vitrine will contain selected artefacts from Munich’s subculture from outside the (archive) box. Archive Artist Publications (AAP) offers an insight into the underground face of Munich’s publication landscape – especially those publications that see themselves as critical counterparts to routine mass media fare.
Experimental and subversive, progressive and political, its journals and newspapers expose what all too often remains hidden from life “above ground”. On display are publications that reflect Munich’s diverse alternative scene past and present: from student booklets to punk magazines to unconventional formats. The content is as creative as it is critical, opening up alternative views of literature, art and social debate – with ideas that are still unfolding their impact to this day.
